I also noticed that the Farm raid took place WAY sooner than I thought it did. I never actually played AC1 so I missed this convo, but Vidic mentions having agents raid other Assassin encampments and Lucy tells Desmond they did indeed go to the Farm, but it was empty. This happened literal days after Desmond was kidnapped. ALSO the team that was killed trying to rescue Desmond may have included some people from the Farm, and if so, probably people Des knew :(

Here’s the Desmond is Talia’s twin brother idea for those curious.

Oh man, this could totally be part of the Desmond is Talia’s twin brother AU and Desmond is Bruce’s bisexual awakening. Hell, he might even try to shake it off and keep pushing the idea that he isn’t attracted to Desmond, he’s attracted to Talia and Desmond looks like Talia (it would be super funny if they were twins but Desmond still looks like Desmond and does not look that similar to Talia at all).

Talia noticed it, of course, and it’s just one more rivalry she has with her brother (which she’s winning!). Desmond isn’t blind, of course. He noticed that Bruce likes ‘like’ him but he ignores it because what else was he supposed to do in this situation? He has no interest in Bruce other than to see just how he would ‘grow up’ under the tutelage of the League of Assassins.

Until…

He became Batman.

And Desmond wasn’t going to lie. He found Batman hot in so many ways that really just showed just how fucked up the way he was raised�� twice.

But Batman also annoys the hell out of him, most especially because of his no killing code so…

Desmond’s relationship with Bruce: Desmond is the kindest of the League members Bruce trained with and they have some kind of friendship.

Desmond’s relationship with Batman: Strained af. Reluctant allies most of the time but Batman spend most of his time trying to stop Desmond from killing a criminal. This usually ends in some kind of debate between them about just how much suffering and death a person needs to do for Batman to finally see they’re beyond saving and it even goes as far as Batman challenging the three tenets of Desmond’s Creed (which is slowly making its way to the League). Jokes on him because he still has the Bleeds’ memories of questioning the Creed and its tenets so Desmond doesn’t mind.

Of course, this does turn into some sort of weird love… tripod with Bruce in the middle and Talia, Desmond and Catwoman.

You know what would be funny? If Desmond doesn’t want to be part of any romantic entanglement and he knows his attraction to both Bruce (emotional) and Batman (physical) is dangerous but being Talia’s brother means he has the obligation not to suppport their relationship so he could annoy Talia so he goes “I ship Batman with Catwoman” even when he doesn’t really care.

Catwoman, on the other hand, finds Batman’s ‘romantic’ entanglement with the twins funny and ships Batman with Desmond because Desmond is nice to her (as one of the few rogue galleries that aren’t exactly in need of being assassinated. Plus,, she sees Desmond’s magpie tendencies as a kind of kinship with him).

Talia ships herself with Batman, of course, and the fact that there seemed to be some attraction between Batman and her brother is… more or less giving her complicated feelings.

Among the BatFamily, Jason is absolutely shipping Desmond with Bruce/Batman. Damien is torn between wanting his parents to find some common ground (and maybe more) and by the fact that he wants his uncle to be happy. The others want no part of it and just want to see the drama unfold while being worried about the damage it’ll have on Bruce if it does unfold.

Cass is raised by Desmond in this one so she may or may not be part of the Batfamily. Regardless, she would want her baba to be happy but… does it really have to be Batman?

His story, background and character development are stunning, yet he's so hardheaded I would definitely argue with him all day.

I love her, like a lot, yet she's so stubborn I'm sure we'd throw hands at the end or roll over with laughter because how stupid everything is, there's no in between.

He has that pretty privilege that allows him to be so… him. Well, I really like how complex he is and appreciate his role a lot, yet please I want -no, I need- to refute every single logical thing mixed with one hundred childhood traumas he says every two seconds.

He's so hot in that mysterious and problematic way, I'd say yes to every incompetence he'd make, because he does that a lot, then fight against him again for doing so.

Probably the most handsome man on earth, yet so easy to tease. Understanding his character was a roller coaster ride of emotions but he's just a huge grumpy teddy bear in adult format, and such a good person despite it all.

I think she's one of the best charismas on the show, even if she has still so much to unpack inside. We'd have girls talk at night while doing arms workout or stop talking for months, that's how I see it.

He's one of the funniest characters ever on tv history, yet he can be so cocky and arrogant sometimes I wouldn't doubt to annoy him and oh a bit of romance tension oh what a pity.

Desmond stretched his arms high above his head, feeling the satisfying pull of his muscles as he twisted his torso first to the left, then to the right. The soft creak of the floorboards under his weight accompanied his movements. He glanced toward the window, where the fading sunlight painted the room in warm, golden hues. Outside, the sky was a blend of fiery oranges and dusky purples as the sun began its slow descent, sinking closer to the horizon.

Kneeling down, Desmond tightened his shoelaces, ensuring they wouldn’t loosen during his trip. Standing up, he zipped up his jacket, the metal teeth clicking into place as he adjusted it snugly around him.

“ You got everything?” Frisk asked. He stood at the kitchen counter, the gentle rustle of ingredients punctuating his movements as he sorted through a small pile of vegetables and jars for dinner. The rich, earthy smell of freshly picked herbs filled the air.

“ Yep. Flashlight on my belt, phone in my pocket.” Desmond patted his hip and the side of his jacket for emphasis.

Frisk nodded, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips. “ Alrighty, but be careful of the dead spots.”

“I got it,” Desmond replied with a confident wave of his hand. “ Bye.”

He headed down the stairs, each step echoing softly in the stairwell, then pushed open the front door. A cool breeze met him as he stepped outside, the earthy scent of grass and soil immediately enveloping him. The open field stretched out before him, the tall grass swaying gently under the influence of the wind. In the distance, he spotted Arno and Connor tending to the horses by the stable.

“ Evening!” Desmond called out as he passed, raising his hand in a casual wave.

Arno glanced up, wiping his hands on his trousers, while Connor gave a short nod of acknowledgement, the horses snorting softly in the background.

Desmond continued down the worn path, the faint crunch of gravel beneath his boots fading as the trail gave way to the dense forest. The air shifted, cooler and heavier under the canopy of towering trees. The forest was alive with sound—a chorus of birds chirping their final songs of the day, the occasional rustle of unseen creatures in the underbrush, and the steady hum of crickets heralding the approach of night.

Sunlight filtered through the foliage, casting dappled patterns on the forest floor. Desmond’s boots brushed against fallen leaves, their dry edges crackling softly with each step. Despite the thickening shadows, the forest felt vibrant, teeming with life. A faint smile crossed his lips as he adjusted the flashlight on his belt, his thoughts already wandering ahead to what lay beyond the treeline.

As Desmond ventured deeper into the woods, the sunlight filtering through the trees began to fade, giving way to a dim, twilight glow. The long shadows of the trees stretched further, intertwining like skeletal fingers across the forest floor. The air grew cooler, carrying the scent of damp earth and moss. The faint hum of life around him shifted into something quieter, gentler—the rustling of leaves in the breeze, the occasional creak of a swaying branch, and the distant hoot of an owl awakening for its nocturnal vigil.

The peacefulness of the forest at night always struck Desmond. It was a stark contrast to the urban chaos he had once known. He paused for a moment, closing his eyes and drawing in a deep breath of the crisp, untainted air. It filled his lungs and left a refreshing chill in his chest. No smog, no honking cars, no industrial haze—just the pure, natural scent of the woods.

As the light dimmed further, making it harder to navigate, Desmond slowed his steps. Reaching down to his belt, he unhooked the flashlight and flicked it on. The beam of light cut through the encroaching darkness, illuminating the path ahead. The first thing it landed on was a small toad perched on a mossy stone. It eyes gleamed in the light for a moment before it gave a startled croak and leapt into the underbrush, disappearing into the shadows.

Desmond chuckled softly to himself and continued walking, the rhythmic crunch of his boots on the forest floor providing a steady cadence. But then, his ears picked up a sound—soft, barely audible at first. His steps slowed as he strained to listen. Tiny footsteps, light and quick, echoed faintly behind him, just on the edge of his hearing.

The sound was deliberate, not the random scurrying of an animal. His hand instinctively drifted toward his belt, brushing over the hilt of the small knife he kept there. He turned his head slightly, his eyes scanning the dark forest behind him, the flashlight’s beam dancing over the trees and shrubs. Nothing moved, but the faint patter of steps continued, lingering just out of reach.

Desmond’s pulse quickened, but he kept his breathing steady, forcing calm into his movements.

I have 2 separate but similar protocreed aus bouncing around in my head now because I started playing the first prototype game yesterday

In both of them shit goes down with Alex Mercer and Gentek before Abstergo gets a chance to grab Desmond

Version 1: Abstergo and Gentek have a business relationship and are both aware that the other company has dubious ethics, but they are separate entities.

While trying to figure out what's going on Alex Mercer manages to stumble on a connection by accident and ends up working his way through several Abstergo employees before determining that whatever they're up to is unrelated to his situation. In the process he finds that Abstergo is after someone and they've traced their target to a bar not far from Central Park. Desmond Miles may not prove very useful to him, but whatever Abstergo want will definitely be worse in the long run so he goes to warn him, getting there just in time to save him from being grabbed.

Desmond ends up awkwardly cohabitating with Dana because he can't risk going back to his own apartment.

Version 2: Desmond is in the Penn station when the Gentek soldiers gun down Alex Mercer and, due to bad luck and questionable decision making, he ends up infected. Although his Isu heritage only comes out to about 1% it's enough for him to survive and to hold onto his memories.

In #1 Desmond would end up learning how to use discarded Gentek weapons because he has no other way to defend himself or contribute. #2 he's a virus so he'd get virus type abilities, but also it would unlock his Isu abilities without the animus to kickstart them. Also also because Alex's codename is Zeus Desmond's would be Hades

In either version there'd be Abstergo/assassins/Minerva and Juno in the background at various levels of Oh Fuck when they realize Desmond was in the red zone and hasn't been seen since.

Abstergo would care less since he would have been useful to them but they don't care about him specifically. They'd just be disappointed. The assassins would be sad but they would treat it like anyone they've lost on a mission. Minerva would be losing her shit about the solar flare and Juno is infuriated because Desmond was supposed to be her way out of the Grand Temple.

Our final album of the 1950s chapter of "10s" revisit is the seminal album Time Out by The Dave Bruebeck Quartet, released in 1959 on Columbia Records. Now who is the Dave Brubeck Quartet? Of Course you have the man himself on Piano, there's also Paul Desmond on sax, Eugene Wright on Bass, and Joe Morello on Drums. This album would be important in jazz history as it would be the first jazz album to sell 1 million copies. Whereas Milestones by Miles Davis was influential in model jazz, Time Out was influential in the use of different time signatures in music. And when looking through the track listing, there are plenty examples of it. The album opens with Blue Rondo A La Turk, A Beautiful song to open the album, This song switches from 9/8 time to 4/4 time and back to 9/8 time. Brubeck got this unusual rhythm when he heard Turkish street musicians performing an unusual rhythm, and when asking them they said "This rhythm is to us what the blues is to you." Next is the longest song on the album at almost seven and a half minutes, Strange Meadow Lark. Another Beautiful song that starts of with Brubeck solo, before the rest of the quartet comes in at around the 2 minute mark. When the Quartet comes in the song is in 4/4, but it becomes unclear what time signature Brubeck was in when playing solo. Rounding off side 1 is Take Five, the song that needs no introduction. the song gets its name from being performed in a 5/4 time signature, and probably the most well known 5/4 piece of music. Opening up with a melodic improvised solo from Paul Desmond, then Joe Morello comes in banging his drums like a ticking time-bomb, though not something as crazy like other jazz drummers like Gene Krupa or Buddy Rich. Side 2 Opens with Three to Get Ready, which has more swing compared to the first side of the album. This song is mostly in 3/4 time much like Kathy'z Waltz, another well known song from the album. And the last two songs on this album, Everybody's Jumpin, and Pick Up Sticks, are in 6/4 that ranges from Flexiable to steady and on beat. And Just to save my words so I don't have to repeat myself. Every song on here is beyond amazing, absolutely beautiful compositions and contributions from each member of the quartet. And much like songs on Milestones there are some songs I can see work as 90s or early 2000s anime background music. 9.4/10, making this our highest rated album so far and the highest rated album of the 1950s albums in this revisit series. Was thinking of Desmond angst and was reminded of a DC character nabbed Cassandra Cain whose father raised her since birth to be only an assassin to the point where she doesn't understand any spoken or written languages but can read body languages to such a degree that she pretty much can't be lied to or beaten in a fight because she knows what you're going to do before you do it and I was thinking Bill would try that if he were an even worse father

You know what would be so fucked up?

If we add in more of Cassandra’s storyline into Desmond. Make his birth be more of a business transaction between Bill and his mother.

We can change the whole ‘father kills mother’s sister because the sister was limiting her potential’ into being an Abstergo kill instead and Bill rescuing her before she dies as well, leaving some ambiguity that Bill waited until the sister is killed. (He didn’t, he tried to rescue them as soon as possible but she will never believe that)

By recreating that part of Cassandra’s storyline, we can give Desmond a much more isolated childhood than the original. No more mother who tried to find him when he ran away because this version of his mother left the moment she could leave after giving birth to him.

Also… in this setup, I think it would be better if the ‘Farm’ is not a community but an actual farm where only he and Bill lives. This further isolates Desmond and the other people in the canon Farm (which we know nothing about other than the fact that the ones who tried to save Desmond in AC1 are implied to be from the Farm so we at least know that they care for Desmond). 

With this, Desmond would be completely isolated, left only with Bill to raise and train him.

He’s trained to be the ultimate Assassin to ‘compensate’ for his lack of the Eagle Vision. 16 years of training made him develop the foundation of his skills and techniques and that’s when Bill knows he has nothing else to ‘teach’ Desmond. 

And so he begins to give Desmond missions.

Easy ones first.

Infiltration to sabotage or intel retrieval.

Then…

When Desmond was 18…

He assassinated a Templar in cold blood.

He felt nothing.

He had been told of the Templar’s high standing in Abstergo. Of which inhumane projects he had supervised. What profits he received from the suffering of the innocents. 

He had been raised to feel no remorse or pity for any Templar.

So he left and returned to ‘Father’ for his next mission.

Soon enough, he became known as the White Ghost. A ghost of the Assassins of old, dragged back from its rest by the many deaths of the Great Purge.

He didn’t talk to anyone, always having Bill as his ‘support’.

He only went outside when he was ordered to. Otherwise, he stayed in one of the many safehouses the Brotherhood had, memorizing floor plans and anything that might help him in his next mission.

Until…

Bill received an SOS signal from Lucy Stillman, requesting immediate retrieval for both her and Clay Kaczmarek.

Bill sends Desmond because this was a matter of most importance. Clay and Lucy would have information vital to the Templars’ plan concerning the Animus.

But when Desmond got there.

He knew immediately that Lucy Stillman was hiding something. Her body movements gave her away. Her concern for Kaczmarek’s life was genuine.

But her fear…

… was not.

.

.

That’s as far as I got.

The next setup would be that Desmond’s ‘skills’ immediately clocked that it was ambush and managed to get Clay and Lucy out. Lucy’s betrayal is outed by both Desmond and sorta-unstable-sorta-stable-flip-of-the-coin Clay. Clay’s the one who tells them they planned to kidnap Desmond because he was the descendant of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad.

Since his ‘mother’ was out doing whatever she wanted for the Brotherhood, Bill orders Desmond to relive Altaïr’s memories and that’s when Desmond becomes more fucked up.

Because Altaïr feels so much. He feels too much for someone like Desmond.

So everyone thinks Desmond is suffering from the Bleeding Effect too quickly to be normal but that’s not it.

Desmond just…

He’s beginning to become human.
